The US Department of Health and Human Services recently changed how hospitals report their coronavirus data.
Hospitals no longer send the information to the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention.
The move has people wondering if the administration is undermining the CDC in its coronavirus response, similar to how it has sometimes sidelined key experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci.
But HHS said the move is purely about speed and accuracy: it wants reporting requirements for the coronavirus project, dubbed HHS Protect, to be easier on providers struggling to deal with patients.
