High-profile Twitter accounts, including those of Barack Obama, Elon Musk and Kanye West, have been hacked as part of a widespread cryptocurrency scam. And the social media giant appears to have halted verified accounts from tweeting in an attempt to stem the cyber hijacking. The accounts, which have large Twitter followings, were simultaneously hacked on Wednesday evening and a message posted encouraging users to send 1,000 dollars to a Bitcoin address. Twitter accounts of the rich and famous-including Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Joe Biden-were simultaneously hijacked on Wednesday and used to push cryptocurrency scams.
At the time this post went live, the wallet address used to receive victim's digital coin contained more than $58,000. The proceeds came from 314 transactions that all occurred on Tuesday. The small windfall was the result of someone taking over at least 15 accounts-some with tens of millions of followers-and using them to promote fraudulent incentives to send money to the scammers.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Presidential election nominee Joe Biden are among a host of powerful people to fall victim to mass hacking by suspected cryptocurrency scammers.
Twitter accounts of a number of companies and individuals were taken over today with a message encouraging people to send transfers of Bitcoin.
Other victims include Elon Musk, Barack Obama , Uber, Bill Gates, Kanye West and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

The scam began when several high-profile cryptocurrency Twitter accounts were compromised and posted malicious links.
Accounts including Uber, Apple, Cash App, Bill Gates, Kanye West, and Elon Musk - apparently compromised by hackers - posted Tweets claiming they would double people's contributions of $1,000 in Bitcoin.

Elon Musk's and Bill Gates' Twitter accounts appears to have been hacked as part of a bitcoin giveaway scam.
Musk posted multiple tweets Wednesday afternoon containing what claimed to be his bitcoin address, saying he was "feeling generous because of COVID-19." Gates' account sent an identical tweet minutes later.
Musk's account followed up with another tweet stating that if "You send $1,000, I send back $2,000!" for the following 30 minutes.
Both tweets from Musk's account have since been deleted. The tweet from Gates' account is gone as well.
