The sprint for a coronavirus vaccine is underway with more than 150 distinct research efforts .
There are three programs that have distanced themselves from the rest by aiming to have a vaccine ready this fall for emergency use.
The hard part isn't jumping in the race - it's finishing. That requires a plan to quickly test a potential vaccine in people, while simultaneously ramping up manufacturing to produce at least hundreds of millions of doses.
