Fauci says virus may be under control at end of 2021 as US faces 4.8m cases and more than 157,000 deaths Donald Trump on Wednesday repeated that he believes coronavirus will “go away”, despite his top public health expert warning that it could take most of 2021 or longer to get the pandemic under control and that it is “unlikely” the virus can ever be eradicated. At a White House briefing, the US president said of Covid-19: “It's going away, it will go away, things go away, absolutely. No question in my mind, sooner rather than later.”

Dr. Fauci predicts drugmakers will likely produce 1 billion COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021

Dr. Anthony Fauci said in an interview with Reuters that drugmakers will likely have "tens of million of doses" of a COVID-19 vaccine by early 2021.
By the end of next year, he said there will be "hundreds of millions and likely a billion doses."
Fauci, the top infectious disease official, warned that nothing is certain.
"I'm cautiously optimistic, though you can never guarantee things with a vaccine," Fauci commented.
