The White House may recommend that everyone in the US cover their face when going out.
Masks are not perfect at preventing viral illnesses, especially because many people don't wear them properly.
But epidemiologists say they may help, especially if people put them on before they know they're sick.

PRESIDENT Donald Trump is expected to ask all Americans to wear masks if they go out in public.
The Trump administration could make the announcement as early as Thursday following recommendations from the Centers of Disease Control, a federal official said.
The recommendation marks a shift in federal guidance amid recent concerns that the coronavirus is unknowingly being spread by asymptomatic people.

WASHINGTON - The White House is expected to announce a new policy, based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that would urge Americans to wear cloth masks in an effort to prevent coronavirus spread, according to a federal official familiar with the policy.
In a draft document obtained by STAT, the CDC recommended that the public use homemade face coverings when in public, reserving higher-grade protective equipment like N95 masks for hospitals and health care workers, who have faced severe shortages in personal protective equipment as the coronavirus pandemic...
