England openers tasked with eroding West Indies' advantage on day four

24 days ago   |   By Cricket365

Rory Burns and Dom Sibley will begin the job of chipping away at England's 99-run deficit as they seek to turn the tables of the first raisethebat Test against the West Indies.
The opening batsmen survived 10 challenging overs at the end of day three, reaching 15 without loss to bring the tourists' lead back into double figures.
There is plenty of hard work still to do for a line-up missing its most reliant run-scorer, new father Joe Root, but plenty of time left for either side to lay the foundations for victory at the Ageas Bowl.

Rory Burns falls after England openers reduce West Indies' lead

24 days ago   |   By Cricket365

Rory Burns fell softly after an opening stand of 72 with Dom Sibley made considerable inroads into the West Indies' lead in the first raisethebat Test.
The fourth day at the Ageas Bowl began with the home side 99 behind after the opening duo survived a challenging previous evening and by lunch they were 35 short on 79 for one.
They carefully chalked 57 off the tab in the morning session, despite the occasional sign of variable bounce, before a long spell of tight bowling ended with Burns leaning back and cutting Roston Chase straight to the catcher at backward point.

Late wickets boost West Indies on penultimate day of first Test with England

Zak Crawley stepped up with the highest score of his short Test career as England established a hard-fought lead but a late surge from the West Indies bowlers left the tourists sensing a day five victory at the Ageas Bowl.
After losing just three wickets in the first two sessions England blinked late in the day, seeing their next five go down for just 30 runs as they closed 170 ahead on 284 for eight.
The hosts had threatened to take real control for the first time in the match when Crawley joined captain Ben Stokes in a stand of 98 for the fourth wicket, but when Stokes fell for 46 and...

Zak Crawley confident England can clinch final day victory over West Indies

England batsman Zak Crawley believes it could be a close contest on the final day of the first Test with the West Indies at the Ageas Bowl.
All three results are possible, with England ending day four 248 for eight - a lead of 170 runs on a wearing pitch.
But England had been 249 for three - with Crawley (76) enjoying a fine partnership with skipper Ben Stokes (46) - before a flurry of wickets in the evening session put the Windies in the ascendancy.

Crawley is still confident England can take a lead in the series on Sunday.
