A Conservative MP has come under fire for suggesting extending the provision of free school meals would ‘destroy' the economy.
Steve Baker was responding to England football star Marcus Rashford as he pleaded with MPs not to ‘turn a blind eye' to children going hungry ahead of a crunch vote on the matter.
The former minister tweeted: ‘No one will be turning a blind eye and it is wrong to suggest anyone would. Not destroying the currency with excessive QE is also one of our duties.'
