Dual World Cup winner signs for Blues in NZ Super Rugby 38-year-old was a free agent since Top League shut down Former All Blacks flyhalf Dan Carter has made a surprise return to New Zealand domestic rugby after an absence of five years by joining the Auckland Blues. Carter confirmed he had signed for the team for the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition after his first training session with the side on Thursday. The 10-week competition features all five of New Zealand's Super Rugby sides and starts on 13 June.

Blues confirm Dan Carter signing

Former All Blacks fly-half and two-time Rugby World Cup winner Dan Carter has joined the Blues as an injury replacement for Super Rugby Aotearoa.
Carter will replace utility back Stephen Perofeta who fractured a bone in his foot during training which will rule him out for most of the competition.
The 38-year-old, who lives with his wife and three children close to the Blues base in Auckland, is a free agent after finishing with his Japanese club Kobe after their season was cut short due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
