Milk run costs drink driver £667 and a year ban

A man caught drink driving while on a short journey to buy milk was fined and banned yesterday - as it emerged seven motorists were caught for alleged drink driving offences in the Highlands and Islands over the weekend.
Daniel Kay, 20, of Westford, Alness, admitted driving while almost three times the legal limit on Friday after going the shop for a relative in Milnafua, a short distance away.
He was fined £667 and banned for a year after appearing at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Police Scotland said he was among seven men aged between 20 and 39 reported to the procurator fiscal in relation to alleged drink driving offences over the weekend in Kirkwall, Alness, Inverness, Nairn and Fort William.
Sergeant David Miller, of Police Scotland's Roads Policing Unit, said: “The consequences of drink or drug driving are well known and it is disappointing that some people still believe it is acceptable to get behind the wheel under the influence.
