James Gunn wanted Velma to be ‘explicitly gay' in Scooby-Doo film but the studio ‘kept watering it down'

Scooby-Doo writer James Gunn's original version of Velma was ‘explicitly gay' in the script of his 2002 live-action movie, he has said.
Gunn, who went on to direct Guardians of the Galaxy, wrote the screenplay in 2001.
Dead To Me's Linda Cardellini starred as Velma, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.
In a Twitter Q&A, Gunn replied to a message saying: ‘Please make our live-action lesbian Velma dreams come true.'
