The death toll from the coronavirus in the UK has passed 1,000 people, health authorities said Saturday.
260 people died from the virus between 5 p.m. on Thursday and 5 p.m. on Friday, the Department of Health said.
That brings the UK's total death count to 1,019 people.
A total of 120,776 people have been tested for the virus in the UK so far, with some 17,089 confirmed cases, and around 103,000 negative tests.

At least 1,019 people have now died in the UK after contracting coronavirus , the most recent government figures have revealed - an increase of 260 in 24 hours. The latest figures were accurate as of 5pm Friday, and take into account the deaths linked to coronavirus over the previous 24 hours. Another 260 people have died of coronavirus in the UK in the largest daily jump since the outbreak began.
The Department of Health said 1,019 people have now lost their lives to Covid-19, up from 759 yesterday.
In England, a further 249 people who tested positive passed away, while four more people died in Wales, and seven died in Scotland.
