The Government must put tough air pollution targets into law to prevent further deaths like that of nine-year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, according to a coroner who investigated the case.
Air pollution limits in the UK are “far higher” than World Health Organisation guidelines, according to coroner Philip Barlow in a new report on preventing future deaths .
But there is “no safe level of particulate matter”, he added.

A coroner has called on ministers to change the law after air pollution contributed to the death of a nine-year-old girl.
Ella Kissi-Debrah lived 25 metres from the South Circular Road in Lewisham, south-east London - one of the capital's busiest roads.
She died in February 2013 following a fatal asthma attack, having endured numerous seizures and almost 30 hospital visits over the previous three years.
