There are concerns the site in Kent could be used as a giant car park for thousands of lorries waiting to travel to the continent
There are fears land in Kent could be turned into a ‘post- Brexit lorry park' after the Government bought a 27-acre site.
Transport minister Rachel Maclean wrote to residents near Ashford on Wednesday to confirm the land had been purchased by the Department for Transport .
She said ‘two primary uses' were being planned for the site - offices for the checking of goods, and a lorry holding area in case there is border disruption after Brexit.

DfT has bought site that will be used for customs clearance and holding pen for lorries, Rachel Maclean confirms The Department for Transport has signed off on the purchase of a vast site in Kent for a Brexit border facility and confirmed that it will be partly used as a giant lorry park just days after the cabinet ministerMichael Gove insisted that was not the “intention”. Rachel Maclean, MP and parliamentary undersecretary of state for transport, has also apologised to local residents in Ashford that they had to learn the news from the press.
