The Covid-19 death toll in Ireland has risen to 174
The Covid-19 death toll in Ireland has risen to 174, with 16 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the National Public Health emergency team has said.
The nation has reported 5,364 cases of coronavirus but the rate of increase in infections is slowing.
Ireland's chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan has said there is growing optimism the peak of the country's coronavirus infection curve will be smaller than first feared.
He credited social distancing measures with continuing to reduce the infection rate.
